How to make flashcards with Claude
Connect Azri to Claude once — no API key, no exports. Then ask Claude to turn your notes, a PDF or the chat you just had into flashcards, and they land in your Azri deck on iPhone.
What the Azri Connector does
Claude is good at reading dense material and pulling out what matters. Azri is a spaced-repetition flashcard app for iPhone. The Azri Connector links the two. Behind the scenes it uses MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard Anthropic created so Claude can use outside tools — you don’t need to know anything about it to set it up.
Once it’s connected, Claude can create decks, add cards to them and search the cards you already have — right from the chat. You ask, Claude proposes the cards, you confirm, and they’re in Azri, ready for your next review.

Example prompts that create decks
Name the deck, say how many cards you want and what goes on each side. Claude shows you the cards first and saves them once you say yes.
-
Create a deck called “Biology 101 — Cell Structure” and turn these lecture notes into flashcards: [paste your notes]
-
Read the attached PDF and make 15 flashcards on the key terms. Put them in a new deck called “Macroeconomics — Chapter 3”.
-
Make a deck called “Spanish — At the Restaurant” with 20 phrases for ordering food. Add reverse cards so I practice both directions.
-
We just went through how TCP handshakes work. Save the key points from this chat as flashcards in a new deck called “Networking”.
-
Create a deck called “Pharmacology — Beta Blockers”: one card per drug, with the drug name on the front and its main use on the back.
Tips for better flashcards
Give decks specific names
Azri finds decks by name, so “Spanish — Travel” is easier to target later than “Spanish”. If you ask for a deck that already exists, Claude adds to it instead of making a second one.
Keep one idea per card
Ask for a question or a single term on the front and the shortest complete answer on the back.
Use reverse cards for vocabulary
Say “add reverse cards” and Azri creates a linked back-to-front card for each pair, so you learn bonjour → hello and hello → bonjour. Skip it for one-way facts like dates.
Edit before you save
The connector asks Claude to show you the proposed cards and wait for your OK. That’s the moment to say “shorten card 4” or “drop the last three”.
Work through big material in rounds
Each save holds up to 50 cards, and a reverse card counts as two. For a whole textbook chapter, ask for cards one section at a time.
